Saturday,
August 12th and Sunday August 13th 2006 -
The Annual Pennsylvania Colony of Nebraska Picnic is
scheduled for the weekend of August 12th and 13th. The event will
be a two day event. On Saturday at 10:00am the Ag. Building on the
Fair ground in Humboldt will be open for those who wish to display
historical items and to set up tables for the luncheon on Sunday.
Families are encouraged to gather and use the air conditioned hall
to visit and see the exhibits.
Saturday evening an old fashion water melon feed is planned out
at the Henry Heim farm. Persons who would like to tour the house
and grounds are welcome as it will be open for you at that time.
The Heim Cemetery is near and can also be visited during the week
end.
Sunday morning memorial worship service at the United Methodist
Church in Dawson is scheduled for 11:00am. Following the church
service the catered luncheon will be held at the Ag. Building at
Humboldt. There will be a program and business meeting planned following
the dinner. Special entertainment for the young people and children
is planned while the adults enjoy visiting and taking pictures and
looking at the displays.
A new event this year will be a dessert bar following the luncheon
and throughout the afternoon. Persons who wish to volunteer dessert
dishes are encouraged to bring pies, cakes, etc to the picnic that
day with a card telling the recipe and the person in whose memory
the dish is presented. Many tasty desserts made picnic goes very
happy in years past and hopefully will again this year. Family and
Friends are encouraged to make plans to attend.
All persons interested in Pennsylvania German History are welcome
to attend.
