colonypicnica.jpg
Featured in July 2001 newsletter. This photo
may be that first picnic in 1922, but it does not have a date. A
note on the back of the photo, addressed to Bertha Heim reads: "This
was taken at our house here the first Sunday we were at home. There
were 83 here and they didn't all come. It is rather small for such
big crowed but maybe you can tell who they are."

This is at
the grove near the home of Bob and Phyllis Williamson, who hosted
the Penn Colony Picnic for a number of years. Note that the pic
was taken front of the hay rack which had just given children of
all ages a hay rack ride around the country. Tractor driven by Richard
Ogle and Dennis Thacker. The ride was popular enough that two trips
had to be made to accommodate the riders

Ernest T. "Ted" Heim and Joshua
Callaway were honored as oldest and youngest attendees at the 80th
reunion, August 12, 2001. We regret that Ted passed away on September
29th in Lincoln. We will all miss him and his valuable store of
family history greatly.
