1 cup sugar
1/3 cup molasses
1/2 cup butter
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 tablespoon boiling water
Boil ingredients together until, when tried in cold water, becomes
brittle. Pour into flat well buttered pan. When slightly cool, mark
with a sharp knife into squares. This candy is much improved by
cooking in a small piece of vanilla bean with other ingredients.
Being our father's daughters we inherited Dad's sweet tooth and
Sunday afternoon was typically a good time to make this favorite.
He always had plenty of real butter in those days. My father was
Nelsen Ulmer of rural Dawson, Nebraska.
