91st annual Penn Colony picnic slated for August 11 and 12 |
If you’ve never been to a Penn Colony picnic, or haven’t attended for several years, mark your calendars for Saturday and Sunday, August 11 and 12, for a weekend of fun, food, and family connections. Relatives will meet at the Ag Building at Humboldt at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to set up the picnic site, erect displays, have lunch, and visit. The watermelon feed at the Penn Colony Museum at Dawson will be at 6 p.m. Neighbors from the Dawson and Humboldt communities are invited to join us for watermelon and a tour of the museum. Doug and Pam Martin will again have horse and buggy rides for the kids. Sunday morning there is a light breakfast at 9 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Humboldt, followed by Sunday services at the church at 10:30. A family memorial talk will be presented. The traditional “picnic,” a catered affair, will begin at 12:15 back at the Ag Building. The dessert table will feature delectables brought by gourmet cooks and bakers in the family. After a short business meeting, the afternoon will feature displays, visiting, and tours of the Penn Colony Museum at Dawson. A map showing present and former locations of family farms and homes in the area will be available for those who would like to make independent tours. |
